🏆 First 10 Clients Playbook
No ads. No huge following. Just a proven process.
Step 1 — Get Crystal Clear on Your Offer
Before you can sell anything, someone needs to understand what you're selling and who it's for. Write a one-sentence offer: "I help [specific person] achieve [specific result] in [specific timeframe] without [common frustration]." This is your north star.
Example: "I help wellness coaches get their first 5 paying clients in 30 days without spending money on ads."
Your first 10 clients won't come from brand awareness — they'll come from direct, specific value.
Step 2 — Make a List of 50 People You Know
Your network is bigger than you think. Write down:
- Former coworkers
- Friends + family who own businesses
- People you went to school with
- Past clients (if any)
- LinkedIn connections
- Social media followers who engage with you
Not all 50 are prospects. But inside that list are referral sources, collaborators, and maybe 2-3 direct clients. Work the list.
Step 3 — Send 10 Direct Outreach Messages
Cold DMs > cold emails. Start with people who know you. The message formula:
1. Reference something real (saw your post, congrats on the launch)
2. Share what you're doing in one sentence
3. Ask if they know anyone who might benefit — NOT if THEY want to hire you
Example: "Hey [name], saw you launched your new product — congrats! I just started helping coaches with [specific thing]. Do you know anyone who might be looking for that kind of help? Happy to jump on a quick call if you want to chat."
Send 10 per week. You'll land your first client within a month.
Step 4 — Show Your Work Publicly
Document your process. Even if you have zero clients, you can post:
- The questions you answer in your niche
- Behind-the-scenes of building your service
- Results from personal projects
- Educational content that proves your expertise
A buyer who has seen 10 posts from you before you reach out is 4x more likely to say yes. Visibility is pre-selling.
Step 5 — Offer a Done-For-You First Engagement
Your first client might not pay full price — and that's okay. A "founding client" rate (30-50% off) in exchange for a detailed testimonial is a legitimate strategy. You're buying social proof.
Alternatively, offer a low-risk micro-service: a 30-minute strategy session, a website audit, or a content plan. Let them taste the results. Then upsell the full engagement.
Most first 10 clients come from: network + direct outreach + referrals. Not from content alone.
Step 6 — Ask Every Client for a Referral
The easiest client to get is the one your current client sends you. After you deliver results, ask directly:
"Hey [client], I'm looking for 2 more clients like you. Is there anyone in your network who might benefit from what we did together?"
Most people forget to ask. It's the highest-ROI marketing you'll ever do. Referrals close at 4x the rate of cold outreach.
